These are the same OEM butt connectors you will find at VW and Audi dealers, but at a fraction of the price. As per VW and Audi, all wiring harness repairs are to be done with mechanical crimps and are not to be soldiered. A proper crimp is a better repair than a soldier connection. But the correct butt connector must be used.

These connectors have a heat shrink liner with adhesive, so after the wire is crimped into place, a heat gun is used shrink the sleeve and glue it to the wire. This provides support for the wire and seals out dirt and moisture at the crimp.

2002 Eurovan, four of the ECM terminals replaced at the ECM using the 000 979 940 butt connectors. With the smaller butt connectors, was able to hide all of the repair under the cap of the terminal housing.
